Connectivism Learning Theory

I have never heard of Connectivism Learning Theory until now. It appears to be a new theory of the Digital Age. This PIDP 3240 course is a great example of Connectivism, we’re connected to each other online, helping each other out whenever possible, researching articles online & discussing them and we’re learning how to use new technology. Connectivism is social complex learning in a rapidly changing social digital world promoted by Stephen Downes and George Siemens.

Here’s an animated video that explains Connectivism as a Learning Theory.

Here’s a video by Dr. George Siemens explaining Connectivism, where it came from and what it means.

I found this article questioning whether this proposed Connectivism theory promoted by Stephen Downes and George Siemens is a learning theory or an instructional theory or merely a pedagogical view?

What do you think?

Is it a learning theory or is it a “tool to be used in the learning process for instruction or curriculum rather than a stand alone learning theory”?
